Stephanie Roth Sisson
Stephanie Roth Sisson is an award-winning author and illustrator whose early years were spent living in and visiting the storied countries of Europe. By age four, she was trilingual. Her earliest memories include drawing pictures to accompany the traditional fairy tales her grandfather read to her and spending more time outdoors than in—experiences that made drawing and storytelling an integral part of her life's fabric.
Books that shaped her artistic vision include Max and Moritz by Wilhelm Busch, works by Astrid Lindgren, and How the Mouse was Hit in the Head by a Stone and So Discovered the World by Etienne Delessert—all fun, inventive, and heartfelt works that continue to influence her approach to children's literature.
Steph has illustrated more than sixty books for children, including the beloved Princess Posey series written by Stephanie Greene. Her debut as an author-illustrator, Star Stuff: Carl Sagan and the Mysteries of the Cosmos, earned three starred reviews, was named an SLJ Book of the Year and Bank Street Best Book, and received an Orbis Pictus Award among other honors. Her follow-up, Spring After Spring, a picture book about Rachel Carson, was recognized as an NSTA Outstanding Science Trade Book, NSTA Best STEM book, CBC Notable, and JLG Selection.
Fueled by curiosity and a deep respect for the intelligence of young readers, Steph is currently roving the storied United States in her blue car in search of new stories and the next place to call home.
